The Rhodopi mountain has been inhabited since the dawn of European civilization and are famous for their legends and myths, cultural and folk traditions. The Rhodopi mountain is associated with the ancient legend about the mythical Thracian singer Orpheus who, after the death of his wife, Eurydice, withdrew into the forests of the Rhodopi region.
Unique architectural monuments can be found here, the most significant of them being traditional houses which are in harmony with the mountain scenery. The picturesque mountain is a natural habitat of some rare animal and bird species and the mild climate determines the exclusive richness of endemic plant species.
